Structural reinforcement: the CRM technique – Composite Reinforced Mortar

In Italy, the use of innovative materials for the structural reinforcement of existing buildings and structures is increasingly spreading. However, having a detailed knowledge of all the application techniques, often referred to by acronyms, is not always guaranteed. This is the case with FRP (Fiber Reinforced Polymer), a reinforcement technique that involves the application of fabrics and laminates made of glass, carbon, and aramid fibers with thermosetting resins; FRCM (Fiber Reinforced Cementitious Matrix), which involves the use of fabrics or nets made of various fibers applied with inorganic matrices (mortars); and CRM (Composite Reinforced Mortar), an intervention technique that uses preformed fibrous reinforcements and inorganic mortars, which will be the focus of this short article.
