SHARING AND APPLICATION OF INNOVATIVE STRATEGIES FOR SEISMIC PROTECTION OF MASONRY BUILDINGS – PROJECT SYNOPSIS
Seismic protection of buildings, for the safety of people, structures, and contents, is a common issue in the project area. The project focuses on existing masonry buildings, which are particularly vulnerable to seismic risk. A synergy of expertise is proposed between the industrial sector (involving 4 companies) and research sector (involving 2 research institutions) to promote innovation in the field of structural consolidation interventions (aimed at optimized use of resources) and to disseminate acquired knowledge and experiences to increase the know-how and competitiveness of operators in the construction sector.
A preliminary analysis of currently used consolidation techniques on the market will allow for the identification of innovative strategies, based on targeted use of modern fiber-reinforced composite materials, for the implementation of top beams, floor ties, and externally applied reinforced plasters. A full-scale building, along with other auxiliary test specimens, will be designed, constructed, and tested to optimize these intervention strategies in terms of materials, application, and effectiveness.
