Seismic improvement of historical buildings: issues, design criteria, and innovative proposals

After summarizing the major seismic issues of historical buildings, various seismic improvement techniques are presented and summarized, including the Reticolatus technique.

After briefly recalling some of the major seismic issues of historical buildings, several seismic improvement techniques are reintroduced and summarized in this article. These techniques have been developed and tested in recent years by a research group at the University of Perugia. The first part of the article focuses on the Reticolatus technique, while the subsequent parts discuss reinforced masonry lintel beams, reinforced brick vaults, and the reinforcement of wooden beams using pultrusion.
